Frequently Asked Questions
When is the school set to open?
Which year levels will be offered?
Our plan is for Victoria Valley Secondary School to open its doors to the first Year 9 intake in Term 1, 2027. This however, hinges on us gaining provisional registration from Ministry prior to opening.
We will begin with Year 9 in 2027, adding one year level annually until we offer a full Year 9 to 13 education. This hinges on us gaining provisional registration from Ministry prior to opening.
How is the school funded?
What are the enrolment criteria?
Our intention is for Victoria Valley Secondary School to open in Term 1, 2027 as a private school. This means we will be required to be financially independent of government education subsidies. The operating costs of the school will be recovered through tuition fees. Refer to the 'Enrolment' page for fee information.
Priority is given to families who demonstrate a commitment to the school's education philosophy, detailed on the 'Our Future' page.
What will the class sizes be?
We will be committed to ensuring our class sizes remain small so that teachers have the time and resources to provide a tailored learning experience. We want our teachers to get to know their students and how best to engage with them to achieve individual learning goals.
Where will the school be located?
The school will operate from what is now known as the Victoria Valley Memorial Hall, located at 65 Victoria Valley Road, Kaitaia. It is on this site that the original Victoria Valley School opened in 1879. The hall will be renovated over the 2026 - 2027 Christmas Holidays to ensure the space is welcoming and fit for purpose in time for the first student intake.
What are the next steps for enrolment?
The first step is to submit an Expression of Interest via our website. We will then guide you through the next steps. Head to the 'Enrolment' page to submit an expression of interest.

The focus of Year 9 and 10 will be on literacy and numeracy, to ensure success in the Common Assessment Activities or Foundational Skills Award at the end of Year 10 or Year 11.
